Winning the Game

A player wins the game when they have victory points equal to or greater than the victory point target (21 in the standard game) while they are the active player. If a player reaches the victory point target while they are not the active player, they do not win the game until they become the active player.

A player may also win the game if every other player’s army has been completely eliminated. As soon as all opposing armies are eliminated, your victory point total is increased to the goal value (if necessary). If all armies are eliminated and the score is tied, the active player wins.

• As stated in the rulebook, victory is immediate. If you meet or exceed the victory point total during your turn, you cannot issue any more orders. In tournament situations where victory points matter, players have been known to delay winning so they can maximize their points (by, for example, looking for a 3-point unit to kill even though they only need 1 point to win).
