Local Special Ability
When you give this unit a
ranged combat order, you may forego the normal attack and
instead deal 1 damage for each ready Direct Fire icon to a target unit within
a range of 8 steps. This attack must originate from a
blue side, and its line of sight must not be blocked.
Notes from Drake the Lesser
- Direct Fire is not a special order, so
it costs 2 order points when used by a formation unit, and you can push to
use it more than once per turn.
- Direct Fire modifies the damage of a ranged combat order, so you must be
able to issue a ranged combat order in order to use it. You cannot use it
if you're in base contact with an opposing unit or if you have no ready
blue die icons.
- A unit can use Direct Fire and issue a normal ranged combat order in the
same turn, but that is two ranged combat orders, so it requires
pushing.
- There is no defense against Direct Fire.
- Normal range is 6 steps. Direct Fire allows you to attack
at a range of 8 steps, which is a greater distance.
- Is only available on units that use the limited-edition Roman Steam
Ballistas. Each such unit has two Direct Fire icons, although it is not
always the case that both will be ready.
